The first three pics are from our host Lin's apartment complex in Bishan; almost all condo complexes we saw in Singapore include 'hollow' ground floors, which act as built-in playgrounds for the kids who live in the building above during the rainy season. I'm sitting at a table in one of the play areas, and the sign for the area is in four languages, a reflection of Singapore's historic role as a multicultural crossroads.
Later pics show parts of the vast downtown, with structures from the past backdropped by Singapore's soaring future. Note Sing's version of Verses: a cathedral converted to shops and restaurants.
And finally, pics from various shopping districts: schoolgirls in front of the giant Paragon mall; Kath in front of a row of shops tucked up a side-street ... And another portent of our expedition's true purpose: turning a corner, we come upon a big banner declaring the same Shakespearean quote that graces Maeve's bedroom.
