Hi All,
Sorry for another long delay in posting ... We only had time to get on the net tonight for the first time since leaving Nanchang, largely due to a delayed flight to Beijing---lots of time killing time in an airport with ten babes in arms---then a fairly turbulent, bumpy, wild ride down into Beijing that set all ten soon-to-be Nanchang-Canadian babies into a screaming frenzy that was an experience all itself ...
By the time we got Maeve into the State Guest she was pretty unimpressed with our parenting skills (giving us 'You two never said nuthin' about carrying me ten thousand feet into the sky in a tin sausage and then tossing my universe back and forth and sideways ... I'm renegging on this feeling safe stuff for tonight!" Maeve kept looking around our new hotel room in the State Guest, clearly communicating to us that she didn't recognize this as home, and was going to wail until we brought her back to the Galactic for some peace.
We got to sleep in the early morning hours, then had to awake early again to start Maeve's immigration work, and then our group headed out for a long day of sightseeing ...
So here's some pics, now that we've finally got Maeve down for our second night with her in Beijing.

Six: One of several Nanchang Airport shopgirls who wanted to hold Maeve.
Seven: Maeve's response to noisy and not particularly smooth take-off: she shut down, went into instant sleep-mode (helped by our decision not to allow her an afternoon nap, natch!)
Eight: As descent into Beijing begins, Maeve's getting scared, and Mom tried to cheer her up, and I took a pic ... What followed was one of the wilder rides down out of the sky I've ever experienced, and as one after another of our Nanchang group's new daughters added her voice to the infant commiserative screaming about evil new Canadian trickster parents, Maeve finally broke down and joined the chorus. The final fifteen minutes were inconsolably horrible for her and for nine other beautiful babes, and heartrending for all the new Canuck parent-couples aboard.
Nine: Maeve, exhausted by fear, passed out on the bus ride from Beijing airport to the State Guest ... Too bad she woke up when we got her into our new temporary home.
Ten and Eleven: Maeve is forgiving, and in the morning she was all smiles and playful with Mom.
Twelve: Maeve, dressed for wintry Beijing weather, and ready for the famous Beijing Zoo and Summer Palace.
Thirteen: Maeve wanted to know if she could ask her Canadian family and friends a Very Important Question. I told her to look into the camera and just ask with her eyes ...

It looks like you are winning Maeve over big time - and she has already won you over - we know that and it's obvious in every picture! I love the one with her looking up at Kathleen and the one of her smiling down at Pat from the other day!
We hope the trip home will be better than this last one to Beijing!

Wow!! she is ever so photogenic, isn't she? Maeve is a darling, and she will undoubtedly have an amazing Beijing visit - best wishes to all of you, thanks for posting these, they are so wonderful!

that hat is priceless - i love that photo of fuzzy hat maeve and her adoring daddy and the one of her looking up at her mom's face while kitty smiles into camera. what a charmer!!! what a face!!! have fun in beijing guys and we'll see you soon!!! geoff ran into some old acquaintances of ours last night and miller proudly told them all about his cousin maeve - that was all he talked about.

yeah - like i say - motherhood has never looked better than it does right now on our Kitty - Kath - you look SO BEAUTIFUL - you've always been beautiful but there must have been some deep inner beauty that was lurking to explode through and woman, has it EVER!!!
and Pat - same with you - this... it's hard to describe - there is something within you that has been secreted away - waiting for your daughter to bring it out in your face, your eyes, your smile - Pat I've never seen you looking so ecstatic and spilling over with love and laughter like i'm witnessing now - she's gotten you both drunk with her - true to her name - and we're all pie-eyed and smitten back home here.
she has us all drunk with love *hiccup* it's hilarious - ever since you picked her up i keep forgetting to notice the other AMAZING details in the photos like some pavilion and paintings and stuff - i mean - hard to notice all that sightseeing stuff, when you're gazing into maeve's eyes in these photos - she's a little too mesmerizing... tomorrow's posts, i'll be all "what wall - oh THAT wall - yeah but did you see her SMILE?"
