Highlights of our return journey from Ipoh to K-L: Uncle Sam took us up into the mountains, winding up and up to the fantastic high pass farms and villages and hotels of the Cameron Highlands, where many Malaysians go on holiday, to escape the heat of the low lands; being cooler in the Highlands, European fruits are grown here. But at various elevations, other harder to come by, jungle vegetables and fruits, including strange varieties of bananas, which were delicious.
We lunched at a Cameron Highlands Tea farm, which grows orange pekoe (bought some here for mom and dad) and offered us scones, cookies and as Marcus put it, 'tea and sympathy' on our long drive back ...
Best part of the drive came as we wound north through the vast Malaysian jungles, the new mountain road offering fantastic views of lush tropical valleys and passes. Then Uncle Sam spotted some aboriginal blow-pipe hunters climbing down out of the trees and crossing the road. These aboriginals collect jungle fruits and sell them at road side huts made from bamboo stalks and leaves ... But they survive by hunting and gathering, using blowdarts to shoot monkeys, and eat the meat.
Sam called to the young pipe-hunter returning to his hut, and the boy---he seemed only 17 or 18 to me---came out and talked to us, or rather to Sam and Lucilla, who were familiar with his dialect (they grew up in the foothills of these mountains, and know several dialects). The boy demo'd his pipe for us, putting two darts into the side of a tree some forty feet away; the darts hit the same spot so precisely they formed a V, sticking out of the tree (something I've seen Costner's Robin Hood do with arrows in a movie, but that was special effects; this was a boy who lives without electricity or running water, surviving by his hunting-gathering skills in the jungle and feeding his family of two, maybe three children who we saw by the hut).
Pic Six: an older aboriginal wandered in, wanted to try on my sun glasses, then hammed it up for me.
Pic Seven: K-L from the end of Unlce Sam and Aunt Belinda's mountainside street (it was a foggy afternoon).
Final Pics: Petronas Towers.

this is just amazing!!! what a memory to carry with you. of course maeve will be throwing her own arrows/darts into your hearts when you gaze into her eyes for the first time mere hours, minutes (?) away as i write this...
great photos... thinking of finally drinking in a photo of maeve in mummy's arms, maeve in daddy's arms on the morrow. can't WAIT to see those photos - because i imagine her hair is longer now, has grown in a bit...and even if her eyes have those tears like in her other photos - they'll be shining in other ways as well... star floodlight.
okay, i have no self control. i already weakened and bought her my first dress for her...it's a size 2 so maybe if she's really tiny it won't fit her til she's 3 but i can't wait to see her size - her proportions to you in your arms - but i think proportions aren't always a fair representation, because for such a tiny girl, somethin tells me she will be carrying this giant heart that will inspire all of us - and inspiring hearts in her mummy and daddy that will feel as though they are fit to burst right through the chest - there will be nothing to compare it to for either of you or for her... and it's making me think of this lovely song by the weepies... so i'm sending you this song because of how you've already bought her bright red boots with velvet laces and because i think of her as our little pink magnolia in winter...and because she's queen maeve, how her majesty is gonna make us all live like kings...and tonight i toast to the plans you made and how fantastic it is that she's chosen you both (cuz with Fate, it truly ain't the other way around - she's chosen PAT AND KIT YEE to be her parents for her life and what a great choice she's making even if she doesn't know it yet - she's definitely made the right one...) and she's gonna be makin' us all have the weepies for the next while (but only in the best way...)
What can I compare you to, a favorite pair of shoes?
Maybe my bright red boots if they had wings
Funny how we animate colorful objects saved
Funny how it's hard to take a love with no sting.
But come on take it, come on take it, take it from me
But come on take it, come on take it, take it from me (we`ve got a good life).
What can I compare you to, a window the sun shines through?
Maybe the silver moon, a smile rising
The magic of the fading day, satellites on parade
A toast to the plans we've made to live like kings.
I lose my breath despite the air
When the rain falls down I give in to despair
Pink magnolia in winter she doesn't care
if you don't show up to have another cup.
What can I compare you to, when everything looks like you?
I get a bit confused with every Spring
Flowers that bloom your eyes, hummingbirds side by side
My heart won't stay entirely in this rib caging...
all my love
